Hey, City Paper! I'm sick of this issue too!

City Paper notes that The Senator is the "Best Local Issue We're Sick Of." Well, heck! So am I! I would dearly love to be able to go back to my life, knowing that The Senator is in the safe hands of a viable community-based non-profit and that Tom Kiefaber and his staff have finally been recognized and rewarded for all their wonderful work over the years, and that all is right with this corner of the world.

But, guess what? I can't, because I care about The Senator and the people involved, and all is not right in this corner of the world.

Can't we all just get along? Can't Baltimore City do the right thing here?

Well, if I'm not mistaken, this is at least the second time in the past two and a half years or so that City Paper has written about The Senator. So, no wonder they're sick of it, with all that intensive coverage. Take a break from all that hard work, guys!

I haven't gone away.

I just want to quickly assure people that this blog hasn't gone away. After the auction, it made sense to take a bit of a break, and I went on vacation too.

I'm back, and doing research into non-profit theatre models all over the country. What I'm finding out is that, as we knew already, the city's steering committee recommendation that said The Senator can't be a non-profit was absolutely wrong. It not only CAN be, it really HAS to be if the building is going to be restored and maintained to the degree that it should be in the near future.

CAN'T vs. HAS TO. That's a big difference, and one that I'll be exploring soon.

I'll be discussing models for historic theatres throughout the country and more. Stay tuned.

I was just listening to Tom Kiefaber on the Anthony McCarthy Show, and both Anthony McCarthy and Tom said very nice things about my blog. Thanks, guys!

Well, they let the cat out of the bag. This weekend I'm going to publish an interview/profile with Senator owner Tom Kiefaber that I expect will be quite controversial. I guess I better get busy on finishing that up!

Tom has been great to work with on the interview. He's given me quite a bit of time, and I know he's always very busy, so I'm very happy to have this opportunity, too.

In an incremental step toward my goal of making a living by publishing my writing, I've joined Associated Content, which pays, albeit minimally, for content. In the future, some of my content will be posted there first, some will be posted there exclusively. That's assuming it works out for me to publish there.

Bored of Politics

Just a quick note to say that the focus of this blog will be changing, at least in the short term.

I'm bored of politics. I still care a lot about the problems that desperately need to be solved: problems like global warming, the health care crisis, ending the war in Iraq, and so on. It's just that I'm frustrated that no political solutions seem to be forthcoming, even when the problems themselves are so glaring.

I doubt that I'll be able to refrain from political comment or involvement, but I need to focus on things that feed my soul instead of steal from it. I think there will be much more attention here to literature and film than there has been in the past. I hope you enjoy the change as much as I intend to.

What to do?

John Edwards dropping out of the presidential race has left me suddenly with a lot of time on my hands and a need to reorient myself. This blog will probably start to cover a wider range of topics. More to come.
